Every once in a while, I find a resort that completely surprises me - and Baoase Luxury Resort in Curaçao is one of those rare places. From the moment I arrived, I knew it was special. Tucked into lush tropical gardens on the southern coast of the island, this boutique resort offers privacy, beauty, and a level of service that’s hard to match.

This isn’t just a luxury resort- it’s a personal project brought to life by Ad van der Valk and his partner Bibi, who quite literally built it stone by stone. Their son Thijs now serves as General Manager, and together they’ve created something truly one-of-a-kind. The resort’s villas and beachfront pool suites are designed with intention- some with private pools, some with outdoor bathrooms, all nestled into a tropical setting that feels like your own secret garden.

I had the pleasure of meeting the family during my stay, and you can feel how much care has gone into every detail. There’s nothing corporate or cookie-cutter about Baoase. Whether it’s the way the tropical gardens are perfectly maintained, or the way your toes sink into the sand on the private beach, the entire resort feels effortless- but incredibly well thought out.

With just 23 suites and villas, Baoase is quiet, romantic, and incredibly private. It’s not officially adults-only, but it definitely caters to couples, honeymooners, and travelers who value a quietly indulgent escape- private, romantic, and unforgettable.

When people ask me what makes Baoase Luxury Resort so special, I almost don’t know where to begin. Yes, it’s beautiful, but so are a lot of places in the Caribbean. Baoase is different. It’s deeply personal, lovingly designed, and completely unlike any other resort I’ve visited.

Located on the southern coast of Curaçao, Baoase Luxury Resort feels intentionally hidden from the outside world. It’s just minutes from the colorful city of Willemstad, known for its Dutch colonial architecture and European charm, but once you step inside Baoase’s gates, you’re in another world entirely. A quieter one. A softer one.

The resort only has 23 rooms, suites, and villas, making it one of the most exclusive properties in the Caribbean. This isn’t a place for loud crowds or cookie-cutter amenities. It’s a private, romantic oasis built by hand—literally—by owners Ad van der Valk and his partner Bibi. They started with their own Master Villa and slowly expanded the property, creating a private beach, lagoon, and collection of tropical gardens that make the resort feel like a storybook come to life.

From the Balinese design touches to the carefully selected decor, every corner of Baoase reflects their vision. Even now, you’ll still find Ad and Bibi on-site, greeting guests, walking the property, and soaking in the magic they created. Their son Thijs serves as General Manager, and you can feel the family’s love and attention in every moment of your stay.

Don’t let the size fool you - Baoase Luxury Resort has just 23 rooms, but every category feels unique, spacious, and beautifully designed. While the property lends itself for a couples escape, there are larger multi-bedroom villas for families. Couples, do not be discouraged, there are very few families here and with villas spread out throughout the resort, it still feels very much like a couples-only retreat!

Beachfront Pool Suites

During my stay, I had the absolute pleasure of calling one of the Beachfront Pool Suites home, and I still dream about it. These suites offer the best of everything: a king-sized bed, a private plunge pool, a stunning outdoor bathroom with a rain shower and oversized tub, and direct access to the resort’s private beach. Every morning, I stepped outside to ocean views and calm lagoon waters. And while I love exploring, I didn’t want to leave my villa. That almost never happens.

Each suite is unique, but you can expect a seamless blend of comfort and design. The roofed patio was perfect for a slow breakfast or catching up on emails (very briefly!) in the mornings. I especially loved the thoughtful design touches- like the lamps that matched the chandelier above the bed. And yes, when they ask you to remove your shoes at the door, listen. The floors are that beautiful.

Looking for something a little larger? The Private Pool Villas are ideal for couples or families who want more space without sacrificing privacy. Set among tropical gardens, these 1–4 bedroom villas come with fully equipped kitchens, outdoor showers, and generous patios. For families with young children or older teens who prefer a quieter, slower-paced resort, this is one of the best luxury options in Curaçao. It never felt busy—even when the resort was at full occupancy.

If you know me, you know food is a huge part of how I experience a destination, and Baoase did not disappoint! From the fresh ingredients to the stunning beachside settings, every meal here felt like an event.

One of the things I appreciated most was the flexibility. You can opt for an all-inclusive package, or go à la carte depending on how much (or little) you want to plan ahead. For guests staying in the villas, the kitchens can even be pre-stocked before arrival. It’s all about making your stay feel easy, indulgent, and personal.

Even the simplest dishes were packed with flavor and presented like art. This is not your typical hotel restaurant - it’s a true fine dining experience in Curaçao.

The resort’s Sunset Deck Restaurant is another favorite spot—perfect for a cocktail before dinner or a laid-back evening with a view. If you’ve spent a little too much time in the sun (guilty), the aloe vera body treatments are incredible. I highly recommend the full-body scrub and aloe wrap combo—it’s 150 minutes of pure healing bliss.

The vibe here is calm and curated—not overly “spa-like” in the sense that it’s trying too hard, but soothing in the most natural way. You’re in Curaçao, surrounded by beauty—this is just the cherry on top.

If movement is part of your reset, Baoase also offers private yoga and Pilates sessions. You can schedule classes in a quiet corner of the resort or even on the beach. There’s also a well-equipped gym across the street from the resort that’s complimentary for guests.
