We put our expertise to work in helping clients plan their ideal vacation. Whether it's to the Caribbean, Mexico, Europe and beyond, we have the experience in creating curated experiences for our clients. We do more than book travel; we are advocates for our clients from the start of planning until the trip is complete. Our work is based on years of professional experience, hundreds of hours of travel industry certification and training, exploratory trips so we can bring first hand knowledge, and a team of women who have been around the globe.  There aren’t many places we haven't been!

What skills are required to be a Travel Advisor?
The following are skills of successful Travel Advisors that are new to the industry or have less than 2 years experience.

  • Networking skills. You should have a core group of friends, family & connections that travel often that you can reach out to in order to grow you business.

  • Highly motivated and self learner.

  • Has proficient knowledge in a growing business through social media.

  • Possesses expertise in strategic partnership identification and development, and travel coordination. Key skills include time management, organization, and written and verbal communication.

  • Has international travel experience personally - is well traveled.

  • Able to maintain regular communication with customers prior to departure to provide updated travel information, including delayed departures and earlier flight availability.

  • Has the ability to travel periodically to learn about new resorts, attend Familiarization Tours, attend awards programs, network with suppliers & peers

What are typical tasks that Travel Advisors typically perform?

  • Determine the needs of a clients and provide proposals that meet their travel needs and budget.

  • Plan and book accommodations, transportation, insurance and other travel services.

  • Responsible for collecting and making deposits and final payments on time.

  • Verify customer passports, visas, and state-issued IDs and ensure proper identification for travel.

  • Prepare detailed itineraries, including suggested tours and excursions.

  • Follow up with clients on trip experience after they return.

If I have never sold travel before, do I really have to be well traveled, have good computer skills and have a personal network of affluent people to be successful as a travel advisor?
Those are the three most important elements to being successful.  If you are deficient in any of those categories, you have to be committed to really working on developing what is needed in that area.  And it may mean that your path and pace to becoming a successful travel advisor will take longer.

Where can I find more information on what it takes to be a great Travel Advisor?

What is the commission split paid by Shoreline Destinations to travel advisors?
The commission split varies. SD offers highly competitive commission split options, with incentive tiers that improve the split for the advisor based on sales.   

What type of training is available and how much does the training cost?
The training you need is covered in the one-time onboarding fee of $1,000.  SD management and / or an assigned SD mentor will be available to assist with all bookings, and in-person training offerings are made available as well as via zoom. Supplier training happens often and you'll have access to train online or in person.

What is the cost of joining the SD travel advisor team? 
There is an initial onboarding fee of $1,000.

Are there ongoing costs for being a SD travel advisor?
After an advisor’s second full annual year, there is a $1,000 annual fee for Shoreline Destinations IC’s and $500 annual fee for IC’s that have their own brand. These fees cover technology fees, training, accounting, marketing, and more.

If $100,000 in annual sales is achieved in a calendar year the fee will be waived.  Any fees that need to be collected will be done at year end through an invoice. 

For an established travel advisor with $750,000 in sales joining SD from another travel agency, what are the options?
SD offers both commission-split and flat-fee/100% commission compensation options.
