Sandals Royal Caribbean Is Now Sandals Caribbean Cay

A Complete Look at What Changed, What Stayed, and Why it Matters!

Sandals Royal Caribbean has been one of the most recognizable names in Jamaica all-inclusive travel for decades. Private island. Overwater bungalows. Minutes from the airport. It never needed much of an introduction.

Now it has a new name, a new identity, and a $200 million transformation behind it. It reopens December 18, 2026 as Sandals Caribbean Cay. And while the location is the same, nearly everything else has changed.

This guide covers what is new, what is staying exactly as you remember it, and what you need to know before you book.

Bookings are open now for stays beginning December 18, 2026!

Sandals Caribbean Cay: Quick Facts

From Sandals Royal Caribbean to Sandals Caribbean Cay: Why the Name Changed

The old name caused real confusion. Sandals Royal Caribbean shared a name with the Royal Caribbean cruise line, making it nearly impossible to search for online without wading through cruise results. Guests who had stayed there and wanted to refer friends often hit the same wall.

The new name, Sandals Caribbean Cay, pulls its identity directly from Sandals Cay, the private offshore island that has always been the resort's defining feature. It is a smarter brand story and a far more searchable one.

The name change is also a statement of intent. Sandals is doubling down on the private island experience as the core identity of this property and building the entire guest journey around it, from the new open-air lobby that faces the water to the reimagined Parisol Beach Club that turns Sandals Cay from a half-day trip into a full destination.

The timing was also shaped by Hurricane Melissa, which hit Jamaica hard in late 2025. Rather than a basic rebuild, Sandals expanded the scope into a full transformation using the Sandals 2.0 design language first introduced at Sandals Saint Vincent in 2024.

What Is Not Changing at Sandals Caribbean Cay

Before getting into everything that is new, here is what loyal guests of the old Royal Caribbean can count on finding exactly as they left it. These are the things that made this resort worth coming back to, and Sandals is keeping them.

  • Sandals Cay, the private offshore island, remains the centerpiece of the resort. It is being elevated, not replaced.

  • Overwater Butler Bungalows and Villas are returning. Refreshed and repositioned above the waters of Sandals Cay, but still the same category that made this resort famous.

  • PADI certified scuba diving is included for certified divers, with some of the best reef, wall, and wreck sites in Jamaica right outside the resort.

  • The full water sports program stays, including snorkeling, kayaking, paddleboarding, Hobie Cats, and sailing, all included in the all-inclusive rate.

  • Red Lane Spa returns, offering Caribbean-inspired treatments, couples massage pavilions, and the spa escape experience on the private island.

  • Butler service tiers remain. Luxury, Club Sandals, and Butler Elite levels are all still in place, with the same personal attention the resort has always been known for.

  • Cross-resort dining at Sandals Montego Bay is included with complimentary round-trip transportation. Two resorts, one rate.

  • Couples-only policy remains. This is an adults-only resort, as with all Sandals properties.

  • Airport transfers from Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay are included. The short ride has always been one of this resort's practical advantages and it stays.

  • All-inclusive pricing covers everything: dining, premium liquor, water sports, scuba, entertainment, and tips.

If you loved Sandals Royal Caribbean, the bones of what made it special are still there. The 2.0 version just builds considerably on top of them.

New and Reimagined Room Categories

This is where the reimagining delivers the most. Sandals Caribbean Cay is adding 84 new rooms, bringing the total to 291. The new and expanded suite categories give couples far more ways to experience the resort than the old Royal Caribbean ever offered.

SkyPool Suites

The headliner. There are 12 of them, each on the top floor of the Balmoral building with direct beachfront views of the Caribbean Sea. Step onto your rooftop terrace and you have a private plunge pool with the ocean stretching out in front of you. These are a brand-new category unique to the reimagined resort.

Insider note: Only 12 SkyPool Suites exist. Peak dates in January and February 2027 will sell out fast. If this category is on your list, book early!

New Swim-Up Suites

New Swim-Up Suites add direct zero-entry pool access from a private patio. For couples who want water at their doorstep without the elevation of a SkyPool, this is the category. These did not exist in this form at the old Royal Caribbean.

Expanded Oceanview and Beachfront Categories

The reimagining brings expanded oceanview and beachfront options throughout the property. New suites with private balconies and unobstructed Caribbean Sea sightlines have been added across multiple buildings. Beachfront categories put guests directly on the sand with some of the most coveted views on property.

Elevated Club Sandals and Butler Elite Suites

The Club Sandals and Butler Elite tiers have been expanded as part of the transformation. Club Sandals guests receive private check-in, all-day room service, and access to the exclusive Club Sandals lounge. Butler Elite suites go further with a dedicated personal butler who manages every detail from dining reservations to excursion coordination.

The Royal Beachfront Club Elite Suite with Balcony Tranquility Soaking Tub is a standout in this tier. Located on the upper floors of the Sandringham building, these suites look out over the Caribbean Sea and Sandals Cay with a spacious balcony featuring a Tranquility Soaking Tub for two, privacy curtains, and a bistro set for alfresco dining.

Honeymoon Suites with Tranquility Soaking Tubs

Sandals Caribbean Cay has always drawn honeymooners, and the reimagined resort deepens that with multiple dedicated honeymoon categories featuring the Tranquility Soaking Tub for two. This is one of the most consistently requested amenities by Sandals guests, and the new resort builds it into more categories than ever before.

  • Beachfront Honeymoon Walkout Butler Suite: Right on the sand with a patio Tranquility Soaking Tub, privacy curtains, bistro dining set, and direct beach access from your patio.

  • Crystal Lagoon Honeymoon Butler Suite: Overlooks the crystal lagoon with marble bathrooms, whirlpool tubs, four-poster mahogany beds, and full butler service.

  • Romeo and Juliet Butler Suite with Balcony Tranquility Soaking Tub: Ground-floor honeymoon suite with a spacious bedroom, dining area, and an expansive private patio with an outdoor Tranquility Soaking Tub for two.

  • Crystal Lagoon Honeymoon Penthouse Oceanview Butler Suite: Upper-floor suite with an expansive living room, whirlpool bath, walk-in shower, and an oversized balcony overlooking both the lagoon and the sea.

The Tranquility Soaking Tub outdoors on a private balcony above the Caribbean Sea is one of those details that couples remember long after they get home. It is not just an amenity. It is the setting for the best night of the trip.

Overwater Butler Villas on Sandals Cay

The iconic Overwater Butler Villas return refreshed and elevated above the waters of Sandals Cay. Glass floor panels let you watch the water below. An over-the-water hammock for two, a Tranquility Soaking Tub on the sun deck, and a dedicated butler. The villa tier adds a private infinity pool. Your private island is literally underneath your feet.

This combination of overwater accommodation plus private island setting does not exist anywhere else in the Sandals portfolio. It is the single feature that makes Sandals Caribbean Cay unique among all 17 Sandals properties in the Caribbean.

Coming June 2027: Oceanview Butler Suites

Planning note: The new Oceanview Butler Suites are not available on opening day. They debut June 2027. If this is your target category, plan your dates accordingly.

Even luxury suites at the new Sandals Royal Curaçao can show up in last minute deals when Sandals releases select rooms for specific travel dates!

The Complete Dining Lineup: 11 Restaurants and 5 Bars

The old Royal Caribbean had solid dining, but nothing with a concept strong enough to define the resort. That changes completely. Sandals Caribbean Cay debuts with one of the most ambitious food and beverage lineups in the entire Sandals portfolio.

New Concepts at the Main Resort

Suppa: The anchor of the dining experience. Built around the Jamaican Sunday dinner tradition, where families gather to share. The space mirrors a modern Jamaican home, with intimate areas that feel like a living room, dining room, and outdoor gathering area. Dishes like rice and peas risotto are unmistakably Jamaican but presented in a fresh, unexpected way.

Keynote Rum Bar: The parlor to Suppa's home. Focused on premium Caribbean rums in a cozy, intimate setting. Not a high-energy bar. The spot for a slower, more deliberate evening.

BLUM Coffee: A dedicated coffee shop serving Jamaica's legendary Blue Mountain coffee. Considered among the finest coffee in the world. Having a full venue for it on property is a detail that matters to guests who take their morning seriously.

The Strand: The resort's signature beach grill making its Jamaica debut. Named for the Dutch word for beach. Fresh seafood, open skies, a sea breeze, and a pizza counter. Casual and polished at the same time.

Tesoro: Global cuisine by day, Italian by evening. A reliable option when you want something familiar, or when the Jamaican-forward spots are fully booked.

Heart & Sol: Grab-and-go done right. Fresh smoothies, crisp salads, sandwiches, and nourishing bowls. The right stop after a morning dive or a long afternoon on Sandals Cay.

Bombay Club: Indian cuisine inspired by the energy of India's markets. Bold spices, copperware, sizzling dishes. Seats fill fast. Reservations are a good idea.

The Cricketers Pub: A returning guest favorite offering British classics. A comfortable, familiar option and a popular late-night spot.

On Sandals Cay: Parisol Beach Club

Parisol Restaurant: Open-air dining right by the sea on the private island. Long lunches, easy breakfasts, cocktails that stretch into the afternoon. Island-inspired dishes in a beach club setting.

The Jerk Shack: Quick, casual, and authentically Jamaican. The right call between swims, without leaving the island.

Total: 11 restaurants and 5 bars across the main property and private island, including a swim-up bar on Sandals Cay.

Sandals Cay: Now Worth a Full Day

The private island has always been the resort's strongest selling point. For years, insiders quietly acknowledged it was underdeveloped relative to what it could be. The 2.0 version closes that gap entirely. Parisol Beach Club transforms Sandals Cay from a half-day excursion into a full destination. Sit-down dining, a Jerk Shack, a swim-up bar, a pool, and palapas along the sand. You can arrive in the morning and stay until the last boat without needing the main resort for anything.

Practical tip: The boat runs on a schedule. Plan to stay on the island for a solid stretch rather than going back and forth. Build your day around the island and treat it as a resort within the resort.

Guests in the Overwater Butler Villas have the private island as their literal backyard. That combination exists nowhere else in the Caribbean at any price.

Arrival Experience, Pool, and Fitness Center

The lobby has been redesigned as a fully open-air space. From the moment you arrive, you have an uninterrupted sightline to the main pool and the Caribbean Sea beyond. First impressions matter at a resort, and this one is built to land. The main pool has been reimagined as a larger, more social space following the Sandals 2.0 blueprint. The fitness center is brand new with panoramic ocean views, a meaningful upgrade from the previous facility.

What to Know Before You Book

  • SkyPool Suites are 12 rooms total. Once peak January and February 2027 dates fill, they are gone until occupancy turns over. Act early.

  • Oceanview Butler Suites do not open until June 2027. Plan around that if this is your target category.

  • Cross-resort dining at Sandals Montego Bay is included. Complimentary round-trip transportation means you have access to two full resort dining programs on one stay.

  • The resort is minutes from Sangster International Airport. One of the most convenient airport-to-resort runs in all of Jamaica. This matters more than people realize on arrival and departure days.

  • Butler preferences can be submitted in advance through the Sandals app. If you are booking Butler Elite or a Honeymoon Butler Suite, do this before you arrive. The more your butler knows ahead of time, the better your first day will be.

  • If you want to preview the Sandals 2.0 design language before December, Sandals Saint Vincent has been running it since 2024. Same aesthetic, same overall vibe.

  • Red Lane Spa on the private island books out. Schedule your couples massage on day one for a mid-stay appointment. Do not leave it until you arrive.
