All About Aruba’s Flamingo Beach
After planning countless Aruba vacations and helping clients decide which option is right for them, here’s my complete, honest guide to Flamingo Beach and De Palm Island in Aruba!
The best place to see flamingos in Aruba? After planning countless Aruba vacations, here’s the honest answer:
If you want the iconic flamingos walking freely along the beach, Renaissance Island is the experience.
The photos you’ve seen on Instagram? That’s Flamingo Beach on Renaissance Island, owned by the Renaissance Wind Creek Aruba Resort. It’s beautifully maintained, and feels like a private island escape. The flamingos roam freely along the sand, and the setting feels refined and intentionally exclusive.
If you can access Renaissance Island, that is absolutely the option I recommend.
Now, if Renaissance Island isn’t available for your dates or you want a guaranteed way to see flamingos, De Palm Island is the alternative. It’s a fun, activity-based, all-inclusive day excursion where flamingos are present, but the experience feels more structured and tourist-focused.
Both options let you see flamingos in Aruba. One is luxury and intimate. The other is active and all-inclusive.
Here’s how they compare.
FLamingo-Viewing Option 1: Renaissance Island
Renaissance Island is a more exclusive experience and often sells-out.
The first option to see flamingos in Arubua is Renaissance Island which is home to the famous Flamingo Beach.
Renaissance Island is a private island owned by the Renaissance Wind Creek Aruba Resort and is the only beach in Aruba where flamingos roam freely along the sand. Access to Flamingo Beach works three ways:
1. Stay at the Renaissance Wind Creek Aruba Resort
If you are staying at the Renaissance Wind Creek Aruba Resort, access to the private island is included. As a guest at the hotel, you can hop onto one of the resort's water taxis fairly easily. One thing to note is that the Renaissance Resort is adults only! Want help booking and planning your stay at Renaissance Wind Creek Aruba Resort? Reach out to us and we can manage all the details for you!
2. Purchase a Renaissance Island Day Pass
Seeing Renaissance Island is a little more complicated if you are not staying at the Renaissance Wind Creek Aruba Resort. Non-guests must secure a limited island day pass, which typically starts around $125 per person. Passes are capped daily, can only be purchased in small quantities, and frequently sell out based on hotel occupancy.
If you would like assistance securing Renaissance Island access, our team can help coordinate this as part of a full vacation package when we are managing your accommodations.
3. Book a Spa Service
Booking a qualifying service at Okeanos Spa on Renaissance Island includes island access for the day.
Renaissance Island is more of a photo-focused, exclusive beach experience. It does not include the all-inclusive food, drinks, or activity lineup that De Palm Island offers.
If your primary goal is the classic flamingos-walking-next-to-you beach moment, Renaissance Island is where that happens. Just understand that access can be harder to secure!
Where is Flamingo Beach?
Flamingo Beach is located on a private island named Renaissance Island, which is owned by The Renaissance Wind Creek Aruba Resort. The island is located just offshore the main island of Aruba, and is a 10 to 15 minute boat ride from the main Aruba harbor in Oranjestad.
The island itself is beautiful. White sand, calm water, and that classic “One Happy Island” turquoise ocean backdrop Aruba is known for.
Renaissance Island is divided into two sides:
Flamingo Beach: The adults-only side of the island and the spot where you will typically find the famous flamingos roaming the beach. Children are allowed to visit this area briefly from 9–10am each morning to see them.
Iguana Beach: The family-friendly beach on the island. While flamingos usually stay on Flamingo Beach, they occasionally wander over to Iguana Beach too, so you might still spot them if you are lucky! (Last time I went, there were flamingoes all over Iguana Beach!)
Children are only permitted on Flamingo Beach during limited morning hours and need to be closely supervised.
Flamingo Beach can be a little pricey, BUT it is a once in a lifetime experience!
FAQs about Flamingo Beach and Renaissance Island
Are kids allowed on Flamingo Beach?
Children are only allowed on Renaissance Aruba Flamingo Beach from 9am to 10am and an adult must supervise them at all times. There is another side of the island that is open to always open to children called Iguana Island however - there are no flamingos here.
How do I take a picture with the flamingos?
The secret to taking great photos with the flamingos is to give them a snack! There are food dispensers at the pier so make sure to bring US quarters with you. If you are calm and have snacks the flamingos will eventually approach you and you can snap a picture!
Is Flamingo Island worth it?
Absolutely yes!! Yes, it’s an expensive experience, but where else are you going to see flamingos on a beach? Visiting the Renaissance Private Island is an activity that we’d recommend everyone do at least once.
The secret to taking good photos is giving the flamingos snacks!
When is the best time to visit Flamingo Beach Aruba?
The weather in Aruba is warm and perfect for a vacation at any time of the year. However, its high season typically spans from mid-December to mid-April. This time of year coincides with winter in the Northern Hemisphere–when vacationers often try to escape the cold.

FLamingo-Viewing Option 2: De Palm Island
De Palm Island is a great option if you’re traveling with kids or want to ensure you get passes to be near the flamingos!
If you want to plan ahead and turn your Aruba beach flamingo experience into a full island day, De Palm Island is the most straightforward option. De Palm Island is a private coral island just off the coast of Aruba. Your ticket gives you access from 10 AM to 5 PM, and it includes far more than just flamingos.
Here’s what’s included with a standard pass:
The opportunity to view flamingos during your visit
All-inclusive food including a lunch buffet and grill options
Open bar with cocktails, beer, and soft drinks
Snorkeling equipment
Complimentary guided snorkeling tours
Unlimited banana boat rides
Body drop slides
Kids water park
White sand and coral beaches
This is not just a quick stop for photos. It’s a full day excursion!
A major advantage of De Palm Island is that you can prebook your tickets in advance, which removes uncertainty from your Aruba plans. You choose your date, secure your spot, and you’re set. With a regular ticket, guests can see the flamingos on the island, typically from a distance. If you want a closer encounter, the Flamingo Discovery package offers a photo opportunity with the flamingos for an additional charge.
Upgrades like premium seating or private beach cabanas are also available, and these areas provide more opportunities to mingle with the flamingos during your visit.
As always, remember to respect the flamingos by not feeding them and keeping a safe distance.
Where is De Palm Island?
De Palm Island is located just off the southern coast of Aruba, near the airport and the area of Balashi.
It’s about a 5–10 minute ferry ride from the mainland. The ferry departs from a private dock on the southern end of the island, and boats run approximately every 15 to 20 minutes throughout the day.
If you’re driving yourself, you’ll head past Queen Beatrix International Airport and follow signs for De Palm Island. Parking is free at the ferry terminal. From there, you take the short ferry over to the island.
If you book transportation with your ticket, round-trip transfers from select hotels are available, making it very easy to get there without renting a car!
It’s separate from Renaissance Island and located on a different part of Aruba, which is why the experiences feel distinct.

Which Aruba Beach Flamingo Experience Is Right for You?
When clients ask me which flamingo experience I recommend in Aruba, my answer is simple. If you can access Renaissance Island, that’s the one.
Flamingo Beach is quiet, adults-only, and beautifully maintained. The flamingos roam freely along the sand. There’s space to relax. The water is calm. The entire experience feels intentional and private. It’s not a packed excursion. It’s not activity-driven. It’s not chaotic. It feels like a luxury island escape that just happens to have flamingos.
Now, if Renaissance Island isn’t available for your dates or you’re traveling with kids and want a guaranteed way to see flamingos, De Palm Island is absolutely a fun alternative. You’ll get food, drinks, water activities, and a structured viewing area!
