Beaches Negril Resort & Spa Jamaica

Everyone knows how much I love Beaches Turks and Caicos so I was happy to make it to Beaches Negril Resort & Spa Jamaica last May (2016). Even though I’m writing this a year later (better late than never); the property is still very fresh in my mind.  I happened to visit on a VERY rainy day… even the sunshine needs a break every now and then in the Caribbean!  So pictures are a bit limited but I was able to grab a few good ones in between showers.

Beautiful beach AND a water park on property! The kids will be entertained!

The good news is Montego Bay airport is an easy flight from many East Coast major airports.  Thus, making Jamaica a great option for those that are looking for non-stop flights to the Caribbean.  However, getting to Negril takes some extra time; plan on another 2- 2.5 hours approximately from when you land at the airport to arrive on property.  I’m adding in time to get luggage, get through customs and the transfer time itself.  The great thing is Sandals/Beaches has a lounge at the airport so you have a place to wait comfortably until your shuttle is ready to go.  The shuttle drivers will occasionally stop along the way and you can grab a cold drink to get vacation started!  The transfer actually goes a lot quicker than people expect, so don’t rule it out immediately.  It’s a good way to get a bit of a tour of the island too.

**Note: I normally recommend this property for families that are staying 5+ nights b/c of the transfer time.

Talk To Me

There is no doubt that this is a family favorite for many! This is one that I absolutely say the sooner you can deposit, the better.  The majority of the room categories here consistently sell out.  To me, making a deposit of $400 (which is fully refundable by the way) is a no brainer.  I also love that I can get pricing for Beaches well over 18 months in advance, so it’s perfect for those families that are really good about planning ahead!

There are lots of restaurants to choose from (9 in all) plus an ice cream counter and a hot dog stand, a water park, teens club, kids club, Xbox lounge etc. etc.  You get the point!! If you have a family that wants more than just a pool & beach, then this is absolutely one of the properties in Jamaica I’d recommend. Oh and adults, don't worry, there are plenty of bars to pick up your Red Stripe, Bob Marley's, Miami Vice's or whatever cocktail you are in the mood for at the moment.

Beaches Negril Resort & Spa Jamaica is located on 7 mile beach which is considered one of the best on the island (and in the Caribbean). You don’t have to worry about not having a great beach here! Thus, it’s perfect for all sorts of water sports.  From paddle boarding to kayaking, there are so many water sports offered here to keep the kids (and adults) entertained!  Divers take note:  there is unlimited diving for certified divers!! All included!

Beautiful Seven Mile beach in Negril. This is at Sandals Negril down the beach (about 15-20 min walk from Beaches). It was too rainy for me to get a good one at Beaches!

The Rooms have a traditional Caribbean feel.  I’d like to see the bathrooms upgraded/updated.  I know it’s just a matter of time until they get to this property to begin updating the rooms. I’ve seen some of their other properties that are either new or have gone through renovations and they are definitely more modern (which is what I prefer).  This is not something to me that is a deal breaker, I just like to give clients info on what to expect from a room perspective before arriving!  Many prefer a more traditional Caribbean feel over the modern/sleek look of rooms so it’s all a matter of personal preference.

Take My Breath Away

There is no question that when a family calls me about going to Jamaica for 5-7 nights, this is one of the first properties I think of.   The longer transfer is absolutely worth it when it leads to this!  If a couples only property is on your radar, then check out the next one on Sandals Negril.  I stayed there for 2 nights during my tour of properties and they have some stunning room categories on the same beautiful beach.

In paradise, this is referred to as liquid sunshine... I'll take walking in the rain in Jamaica any day!

Cheers to all things travel!
